ABOUT TOBA TEK SINGH

Toba Tek Singh is a district in the central Punjab province of Pakistan. It is named after a kind-hearted Sikh figure "Tek Singh" who served water and provided shelter to the worn out and thirsty travelers passing by a small pond ("TOBA" in Punjabi). The District Toba Tek Singh was developed by the British toward the end of the 19th Century when farmlands were allotted to the people who migrated from Lahore, Jalandhar, Sarhand and Hoshiyarpur districts. It is located between 30°33' to 31°2' Degree north latitudes and 72°08' to 72°48' Degree east longitudes. It became a separate district in 1982. Its estimated population is 2.42 M and area 3252 square kilometers. The number of its Tehsils is 4 i.e. Toba Tek Singh, Kamalia, Gojra and Pir Mahal. Districts of JHANG, FAISALABAD, SAHIWAL and KHANEWAL are neighbouring districts. Major urban areas in Toba Tek Singh district are Pir Mahal, Gojra, Kamalia, Rajana, Sandhilianwali and Toba Tek Singh. The tehsil Toba Tek Singh consists of very fertile land in the east, which becomes sandy towards the west. District Toba Tek Singh is one of the best producers of orange "locally known as kenno". Toba Tek Singh District is ranked fifth highest in Human Development Index among 94 districts in Pakistan. Toba Tek Singh has a high literacy rate counted amongst the top 10 cities of Pakistan. It has many educational institutes; the top among them is the University of Agriculture, Toba Tek Singh. Two Motorways, M3 and M4, have been built through Toba Tek Singh. The district is represented in the National Assembly by three elected MNAs and six elected MPAs. In 1970, the historical Kissan Conference was held in Toba Tek Singh, and led to Land reforms in Bhutto’s Era. This city, esp. Tehsil Gojra, has been best known in the country as home of hockey. It has produced an outstanding 92 Olympians in field Hockey. The name Toba Tek Singh also became the title of Saadat Hassan Manto’s famous satiric play on Partition.

Divisional Public School & College, Toba Tek Singh, previously known as Jinnah Public School, is run under district government purely on public school pattern. It prepares the youth (Boys and Girls) for Examinations held by the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Faisalabad. The aim is to impart not only quality education but also to provide an environment conducive to groom the students as confident, disciplined and courageous young people with glaring qualities of strong character. The efforts are specially aimed at inducing in them a spirit of service towards the nation as committed, motivated and responsible citizens.
